The tour departs at approximately 8:00 a.m. from Hopkins. When sea conditions allow, guests may board from the beach or a nearby dock. If the water is too rough for a safe beach departure, the captain may use the marina instead.
After a scenic boat ride of about 30 minutes, the crew heads toward the mangroves to catch live sardines for bait. The captain and guide then choose fishing areas based on current conditions. They prepare the rods and help beginners, so you do not need previous fishing experience or your own equipment.
Common catches may include snapper, jack, or barracuda. The experience continues at Bread and Butter Caye, where the crew cleans and grills the day's suitable catch. 5. Maya Chocolate Making Near Maya Center
A Maya chocolate-making experience is one of the best cultural activities near Hopkins and a useful option when the weather is unsettled.
Guests learn how cacao is prepared and processed, grind cacao, make chocolate, and sample traditional flavors. Depending on the specific program, the experience may also include information about cacao farming, Maya food traditions, and cacao's role in local culture.
This activity takes place near Maya Center in the Stann Creek District. It is different from the cacao farms in the Toledo District, so check the exact location when comparing tours online.

How I Recommend Planning One Week in Hopkins
For most visitors, three or four organized tours during a seven-night stay is enough. Hopkins is worth enjoying at a slower pace, and leaving open time gives you flexibility if weather affects a boat trip.

Boat tours depend on wind and sea conditions. Scheduling snorkeling or fishing early gives you another chance to reschedule if conditions are unsafe.
Alternate strenuous and easy activities
Avoid booking Antelope Falls and Tiger Fern on consecutive days unless everyone is an experienced, well-conditioned hiker. Follow a hard hiking day with chocolate making, a village day, or another lower-impact activity.
Be careful with arrival and departure days
